Any notification to alert education about a child who may have special educational needs from health is a Section 23 notification.
Under section 23 of the Children and Families act 2014 health professionals have a legal duty to inform the local authority about any child under 5 who may need extra support when starting school. This applies to children who have, or are likely to have, special educational needs or a disability (SEND).
Once a notification has been completed If the named child is in an early years setting, an early years specialist teacher will also contact the setting as part of Lincolnshire’s inclusion support. Where the child is not yet in an early years setting, a member of EYCC will contact the family to share details of the local early years and family hubs offer.
