Works to replace the busy toucan crossing on Newark Road will begin in May.
Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “The current toucan crossing on Newark Road is coming to the end of its operational life and needs replacing.
“So, we’re taking this opportunity to upgrade the crossing with more environmentally friendly technology.
“The new equipment will be extra-low voltage which will reduce the crossing’s power consumption and carbon footprint.”
Location of works
The works will be carried out on Newark Road near to the roundabout with Hathersage Avenue.
Dates and times
The work will begin on Monday 19 May and has a planned end date of Monday 9 June. Work times onsite will be from 20.00 to 06.00, subject to suitable weather. No weekend works are planned.
Traffic management
A road closure is required for the programme duration with a diversion route in whilst works are ongoing.
Diversion route
The signed diversion route using like-for-like roads will be: Moor Lane / Lincoln Road / Hykeham Road and vice versa.
Karen Cassar added: “It’s a busy road, so we’ve decided to carry out these works overnight under a road closure and lift this at the end of each shift to help keep the disruption to a minimum.
“I do appreciate though, that there will still be some disruption, so I’d like to thank everyone effected for their patience while we get these improvements in place.”
