Objects placed on the highway
Anything which obstructs free passage of the highway is an obstruction as defined in the Highways Act 1980. The highway includes roads, footpaths and verges.
Examples of obstructions include:
- Stones
- Mirrors
- Household rubbish
- Building materials
- Advertisements
- Goods
It is an offence to wilfully obstruct the highway. Where the obstruction causes a significant danger or nuisance to users of the highway we will take enforcement action.
