Electoral process

District and borough councils conduct all elections, whether they are:

  • county
  • district and borough
  • parish
  • Parliamentary
  • Police and Crime Commissioner

District and borough council elections

The county has seven district and borough councils:

Elections are held either every four years or, in the case of the City of Lincoln Council, every three out of four years.

County council elections

These take place every four years. The next election is due to be held in 2025.

Parish and town councils

There are around 600 parish and town councils in Lincolnshire.

Parliamentary elections

The last General Election was held on 12 December 2019.

There are seven Members of Parliament for Lincolnshire.

Elected mayor referendum

Residents have the right to ask for a referendum if they want an elected mayor to manage their council.

A minimum of 5% of the electoral register is required to submit a valid petition.
